How did you get started mountain biking? My husband and I were avid runners and one day my body reached a point where it wouldn't let me run anymore. I had terrible groin, hip, and knee pain that I just couldn't get rid of. He had the idea of buying bikes as an alternative to running outside. Long story short, he didn't want to wear spandex, so we bought mountain bikes instead of road bikes. The not wearing spandex part is out the window now, and we ride both mountain and road bikes. Haha! But I am so thankful we started on the dirt because this is where my love for cycling really is.

How long have you been riding? This summer will be 7 years.

What is your favorite local trail? That's way too hard to pick between my home trail Northshore and Sansom.

Do you have a nickname? Lucy! It all started with a person mistaking me for Asian, when I'm really Hispanic, saying I was fast on the trails, and they thought my name was Lucy. It just stuck and next thing you know my name is Lucy...even to my husband!

How did you get started mountain biking? I was working as a girl’s director for a summer camp in college and a local bike shop donated a bunch of Rock Hoppers to us. I bought one for super cheap when I left the camp and started biking with a friend I played soccer with. I met my husband through biking and then decided I had to find a girls group to ride with when I would have to miss the ride with the guys when I was working. That’s when I found DSS and started riding consistently.

How did you get started mountain biking?  After having my son and dealing with some post pardom   depression I had gained a ton of weight. In 2000, my son turned 3 and I had hit the end of my sad times. I realized that I couldn’t make him happy until I was happy. I went to the gym, lost some weight and thought to myself, how do I keep it off. I looked around, saw my bike that was purchased in 1994 and knew I was close to a trail. I grabbed it, took it for a ride, hit a tree and went back home to my spouse and told him that I wanted to try riding with out hitting trees. I haven’t stopped riding since that day.

How long have you been riding? I got my first bike for my 5th birthday. I really haven't stopped riding in some form since then.

What is your favorite local trail? I haven't been to a local trail that I don't like, but Rowlett Creek is special to me because my husband and I would ride there several nights a week when we first started dating, and we now live on the trail, so it's convenient. I probably have had the most fun at  Oak Cliff Nature Preserve lately.

How did you get started mountain biking? During my first year of teaching I became good friends with a co-worker that was on my team. For a good year, she told me multiple times she was going to get me on a mountain bike. After seeing some of Northshore and being reluctant about trying it, she finally convinced me. My first ride was on gravel at Greenbelt on a borrowed bike. The same day, we rode Corinth Community Park. After that, I was hooked!

Do you have a nickname? In college I earned the nickname Jonsey “Joan-zee.” My boyfriend in college saw me upset for the first time and was in shock because I don’t get upset easily. He referred to me as the rapper Mike Jones. He then started calling me Micah Jones, which then eventually turned into Jonsey within my group of friends. Now they call me MJ, Emjay, Micah Jones, Jonsey, or whatever other variation they can come up with...I promise I am not a crazy person! One of my biking friends also refers to me as Laverne, because of how close I am with my other biking friend Tricia. We enjoy going on biking adventures and getting into trouble together! He also sometimes calls me “Your Grace” in reference to Game of Thrones and me getting my way! Haha. I have 39 kids. All around the age of 7 and are students in my classroom. They call me Ms. Henderson ☺
